How We Work

With the support of partners, we access and distribute food.

Second Harvest Northland’s primary role in hunger-relief, as the region’s only Food Bank, is to access and distribute food to agency and community partners (food shelves, on-site meal programs and tribal organizations) and our neighbors directly.

Much of our food is sourced and then donated by national and regional manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and growers. Some pass through our distribution centers in Duluth and Grand Rapids, MN, while others go to partners and people directly within our 15-county service region throughout the Northland.

As much as 90% of the food distributed by food shelves in your local communities comes from Second Harvest Northland. These important programs are able to access free, nutritious food for neighbors in your community which is then delivered by our fleet of trucks and drivers.

Second Harvest Northland ensures more than 10 million meals annually to more than 70,000 neighbors experiencing hunger in NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin.
