Joe Murphy from Minnesota GreenCorps joined us in September to help assess our food rescue program over the next 11 months. Our rescue of food from regional wholesalers, retailers and growers is at the heart of our mission. Rather than entering a landfill, surplus, usable food is instead distributed to soup kitchens, shelters and programs for youth feeding thousands of our neighbors.

Joe Murphy, Minnesota GreenCorps, joined us in September to assess our food rescue over the next 11 months. Coordinated by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), this program trains new environmental professionals to preserve and protect Minnesota’s environment.

“I’m thrilled to be with Second Harvest,” shared Joe. “I’m passionate about sustainability in relation to food rescue and food security. I’m driven by this opportunity to help our neighbors in need while at the same time promoting sustainable innovation.”

Joe recently earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of MN-Duluth, majoring in Environmental Sustainability.
