On a snowy day in the Village of Solon Springs, David picks up food for nine friends in his truck. “Most of the people I pick up for are disabled,” he shares. “Sometimes they can’t make it here because they have a job opportunity, so I pick up food for them, so they don’t have to skip out.”

Despite being permanently disabled himself, David says he enjoys helping other people and using the resources he has—a big truck—to deliver food. “Some have limited car use, or no car at all. My truck lets me get food to help them out,” he shares.

Once a month, our Mobile Food Pantry Program frequents Solon Springs. Our safe and convenient drive-through supports more than 200 neighbors with nutritious food like fresh produce, meat, dairy, and baked goods.

Our Mobile Food Pantry Programs operate in Solon Springs and Hurley, WI; Cloquet, Grand Marais, and Grand Portage, MN. Thanks to your support of this important program, more than 358,000 meals are provided annually to families, children, and seniors throughout the Northland.

Brad and Lezlie believe in our work. So, when they established a donor-advised fund (DAF) a few years ago, they added us as a beneficiary. “We believe in you and the services you provide,” they shared.

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable investment account that can be used to support organizations like ours. When you contribute cash, securities, or other assets to a DAF, you’re generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Those funds can then be invested for tax-free growth, and you can recommend grants to any IRS-qualified public charity.

Opening a DAF was new for them, but they had appreciated stock
and wanted to take advantage of the tax incentives. “It’s an easy way to establish a consistent pattern of giving. We choose our gifts, our advisor keeps us updated, and it’s convenient,” Brad shares.
