The small town of Cloquet, Minnesota, holds deep meaning for Carol and her husband. Both grew up in the community, and after time away, it is once again home to them, their daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandsons. Surrounded by family and neighbors they know and trust, Cloquet represents the sense of belonging Carol treasures most.

“Family means so much to my husband and me and it’s nice to feel so secure in this community,” Carol shares with a smile.

Now retired, Carol and her husband rely solely on Social Security. Like many families, rising grocery costs have made it harder to balance monthly bills, put food on the table, and support loved ones when they need it most. Through Second Harvest Northland’s Mobile Pantry Program, Carol is able to access healthy, nourishing food to help care for her and her family.

Each month, Carol visits the Mobile Pantry to pick up food. “It is good to be able to lean on one another,” Carol shares, “Especially when we are all going through difficult times.”

Your generosity makes moments like these possible. Every $1 provides 3 meals, ensuring neighbors like Carol stay healthy, strong and nourished. Your generosity proves that at Second Harvest Northland, we are all part of one family.

This National Volunteer Appreciation Month, we’re celebrating the hours, heart, and dedication that make our work possible. At Second Harvest Northland, every volunteer shift helps put nourishing food on a neighbor’s table.

In Hurley, Wisconsin, that impact comes to life through Joseph. Month after month, he shows up at our Mobile Pantry Program to hand out food, welcome neighbors, and ensure everyone leaves with what they need. For families facing hunger, Joseph’s time and kind smile mean more than food. They mean care and dignity.

“I love volunteering at Second Harvest Northland’s Mobile Pantry,” Joseph shares. “This program makes such an impact on those in my community.”

Joseph is one of more than 2,000 volunteers across our 15‑county region. Together, they ensure neighbors have access to food when they need it most.

As need continues to grow, so does the importance of volunteers willing to give their time. Each hour makes a real difference. This month, we invite you to be part of the heart of our mission by volunteering and helping nourish our communities.
