Our impact is attributable to the 100+ agency and community partners (food shelves, on-site meal programs, and tribal organizations) and countless volunteers who make our hunger-relief work possible throughout our 15-county region.

In Palisade, one of the rural Minnesota communities we support, we operate our Mobile Food Pantry Program in partnership with volunteers who help us provide food to local families, children, and seniors monthly. In addition, we supply partner Palisade Food Shelf with our nationally and regionally donated food to support their own monthly distribution.“Our neighbors really appreciate our support,” shares Barb, who grew up in Palisade and helped start the food shelf. “We’ve seen people in tears. They have even called us their family.”

Just miles away in Aitkin, we deliver fresh and nutritious food to the Community Food Shelf at First Lutheran, one of the other 70 food shelf partners we support in NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin.“We couldn’t do our work without Second Harvest,” shares Pat and Judy who manage the food shelf and enjoy giving back to their community. “Our partnership is so beneficial. The amount of food we get at no cost helps us feed even more people in our community.”

“We are strong, we are resilient and we are uniquely equipped to handle this crisis,” said Shaye Moris, president/CEO of Second Harvest Northland. “COVID proved our ability to come together to support our neighbors, and we are calling on our Northland communities once again to ensure families, children and seniors have access to the food they need to thrive.”

Update: As of Wednesday, November 12, the 43-day government shutdown has ended and funding to USDA and federal food nutrition programs like SNAP, WIC, and TEFAP has been restored. While we are relieved for this update, the effects of SNAP benefits being cut persists as families work to recover from the temporary loss of funding.

Our Food Shelf Program, along with the nearly 70 food shelves we support throughout NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin region, have reported a 16% increase in use. What’s more, we’ve seen a 26% increase in use by new neighbors who have never visited a food shelf before.

Please continue to support our Northland neighbors as demand for food remains high at our food shelves and meal programs across our region.
