We have officially kicked off our early giving for Give to the Max Day – the annual 24-hour online giving day. Starting today, all gifts to us through midnight November 16, 2023, will be generously matched up to $15,000 by the Catholic Charities Bureau, Diocese of Superior. That means your support will ensure twice as many meals to families experiencing hunger.

“I’m so appreciative of this program,” shares Mary, a mother of three who visited our Food Shelf Program recently. “It helps our household immensely! I’m so appreciative of all who make this possible.”

Give to the Max today and help us double the impact for families like Mary’s this November.

Costco opened their Duluth location in 2021 and has been a crucial partner in our hunger-relief work ever since. In just the past year, Costco has donated over 462,750 pounds of surplus food, which has resulted in 370,205 meals for local families, children and seniors.

“Having a great partnership with Second Harvest allows us to donate safe, healthy food that will go directly to the families within our local communities who need it most. In addition, our food donations save money by reducing our disposal fees,” shares Duluth’s Costco Manager, John Kuzas. “We are feeding families and reducing our carbon footprint at the same time. It’s a win, win!”

While feeding our Northland neighbors, Costco is also helping our environment. In total, they have prevented 1,315 tons of CO2, which is the equivalent of 285 cars driven for one year. They have also prevented the use of 68 million gallons of water by donating rather than disposing their food, which is equivalent to 102 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

We can’t thank partners like Costco enough. Not only do they ensure meals for our neighbors they help prevent impact to our environment.
