“I want to give while I’m still alive,” shared Susan, a long-time contributor to our food bank. “I have the resources, my husband has passed and I don’t have any children.”

Susan also shared that she’d just celebrated a milestone birthday and her IRA would require minimum distributions in a few months when she turned 70 ½. She chose us to make a qualified charitable distribution which satisfied her requirement. Not only did this provide a benefit to Susan, it resulted in over 30,000 meals for families, children and seniors in our area.

“I like to feed people in town,” she shared. “You are one of my prime charities and I can think of no better way to impact our community.”

There are many opportunities to make gifts that benefit you, your family and our food bank. We recommend talking with your accountant or legal counsel for
more information.

“As a veteran, it’s really tough to ask for help,” shared Jim.  “My time in the service taught me to be independent.  I was ashamed to admit that I couldn’t make it on my own.”

Jim, like many of our Northland veterans, find it difficult to ask for assistance when times are tight.  But when they do, your support allows us to provide nutritious food through our Food Shelf, our Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) and network of NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin agency partners – feeding thousands of veterans in need.

“I’m not sure I’d be as confident about the future without the food shelf’s support,” he shared.  “To me, the people there are angels, and I can’t thank them enough for everything they do.”
