When the pandemic hit the Cleveland Cliffs Foundation stepped into action to ensure needed meals for families, children and seniors throughout the Arrowhead Region of northern Minnesota.
Already a long-time supporter, their impact grew from 15,000 meals to more than 240,000 meals overnight.
“As a leader in the North American steel industry and a prominent employer in the communities where we operate, we believe that Cleveland-Cliffs has a role to play in supporting food banks,” shares Patricia Persico, Senior Director, Corporate Communications, Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. “Together with Second Harvest Northern Lakes, we are helping our neighbors facing hunger, and we encourage other employers to step up and tackle the issue of hunger by also supporting local food banks.”
Cleveland Cliffs Foundation’s support allowed our food bank to purchase quality pork from a local producer whose sales had plummeted due to the slowdown and closure of local restaurants. Not only did the foundation’s generosity feed our Northland neighbors it had benefit for local small business and our economy.
