“I had no idea what a food bank was when I came here 18 years ago,” shares our Operations Director, Kevin Bryant. “I thought, ‘Food bank, food shelf, what’s the difference?’” Now a veteran in our industry, Kevin’s in charge of our operation housed in our 24,000-sq. ft. facility in Duluth’s airpark.
Food banks primarily exist to provide food and non-food items to other non-profit programs. As our region’s only food bank, we provide over 6.5
million pounds of product to 75 non-profit agencies located in NE Minnesota (St. Louis, Carlton, Lake and Cook counties) and NW Wisconsin (Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland and Iron counties).
Mostly donated by national and regional manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and growers, our product has impact far beyond Duluth. “You’re
our primary source of food,” shares Karl, Manager of the Quad Cities Food Shelf in Mt. Iron, who receives more than 687,000 pounds annually. “Without you
there’s a lot of people who wouldn’t get fed up here.” Throughout the U.S. there are just over 200 Feeding America™ food banks like ours serving specific geographic regions.
Together, we distribute nearly 5 billion pounds of food through 60,000 food shelves and other programs reaching 38 million neighbors. Together, we’re literally Feeding America.”
