We recently met a senior at a food distribution, and she shared that she had been a donor to our organization but she’d recently lost her job. It was a rainy afternoon at our food distribution for seniors. Gary, our Inventory Specialist, was getting set up and noticed a woman in her car. As he describes it, “she had red eyes, like she had been crying.”

When he spoke to her she said, “I never thought I’d be here.”

She shared that she had been a donor to our organization for nearly 20 years but, like so many people in our region, she’d recently lost her job. With a warm, welcoming smile Gary said, “Imagine all of people you’ve helped for 20 years. Now it’s our turn to help you. Welcome to our food bank.”

Gary took great pride in helping this grateful senior load up a wholesome box of food as part of our Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors.

“I always thought I had the best job,” he shared afterward. “I love the people I work with and the volunteers are phenomenal. This just confirmed it. It feels good to help someone and put their mind at ease.”
