Mike Blaylock was the Board President for the Village of Solon Springs when he helped us find a location for our Mobile Food Pantry Program in southern Douglas County. “It’s all about connection to the community,” he says.

Having helped start a food pantry in his hometown, he liked the idea of a program with more anonymity. Now, nearly 8 years later Mike and his team of dedicated volunteers — including many from his town’s volunteer fire department — have grown the program from supporting 100 neighbors to nearly 300 monthly.

“It’s bittersweet that people in our community are struggling with basic needs,” he shares. “Taking that stress off of them is the least we can do.”

Mike shares that many of the people they’ve helped have come back to volunteer. “They’ve personally been affected and want to join us to be here for our community.”

We couldn’t ensure nutritious food for families, children and seniors without incredible volunteers like Mike and his crew. Each year, they and over 1,300 volunteers like them, help us stretch our 17-member staff ensuring 5.6 million meals for our neighbors in NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin.
