Food loss occurs at every step of food production and distribution. Excluding consumer waste at home, nearly ¾ of food from manufacturers, grocery stores and restaurants ends up in landfills. An additional ¼ are fruits and vegetables discarded on farms or left in fields.

Here at Second Harvest,  we do everything possible to ensure perfectly edible food is rescued to feed families facing hunger in our region. Our rescue not only fills hungry tummies but reduces food waste, contributing to a healthier planet.

What do we do with our waste?  Each year as little as 2% of the food we receipt is wasted. Our food, once no longer edible for families, is provided to local livestock farmers for feed or composted. People, pigs, pansies is our order of local food waste here at Second Harvest.
