Each year the College of St. Scholastica, generous contributors and volunteers provide a free Thanksgiving meal to Twin Ports and surrounding community members.
More than 7,000 meals are prepared with most being served at the D.E.C.C., many being delivered to those who are homebound in Duluth, Superior, Two Harbors, and Cloquet, and the remaining, in the form of a bag lunch, provided as a second meal.
So what happens when there’s leftover roast turkey, potatoes, gravy, or dinner rolls? Fortunately, your support allows us to rescue this food for others in our community needing assistance.
“It’s important that we prepare enough food for Thanksgiving Day so that everyone is able to receive a meal,” shared Monica Hendrickson, the Thanksgiving Day Buffet Coordinator. “When that results in surplus, the food bank is able to pick up our food and ensure distribution back into the community to those who need it most.”
Annually, more than 1,200 meals are rescued extending the reach of this important Thanksgiving community meal to our neighbors in need.
